ABceuta screening Oujda — Reel

ABCeuta film collection held a public event in Oujda, organised in collaboration with AMSV, bringing together just over 50 attendees from across the city and the wider Oriental region. The audience included local activists, members of civil society, Sudanese migrants, families of disappeared migrants, and Moroccan women who work seasonally in Spain’s agricultural sector. The event opened with a presentation of the project in Darija, with some French translation, followed by an introduction from AMSV on their work and on current migration dynamics in the region, including the recent increase in arrivals of Sudanese people to Oujda. A roundtable discussion then brought together Imane Bellamine, President of the Moroccan Network of Migration Media Journalists; Ikram Lamhamdi-Karti from Solidary Wheels; Abdelali Jabri, a veteran journalist with long-standing experience in civic media; and Sanae Salmi, a researcher and media trainer.

The event created a safe and meaningful space for exchange, including powerful testimonies from those directly affected by border violence and disappearance. Participants responded warmly to the films, noting that they offered a different tone from the often dark and heavy narratives surrounding migration. The day concluded with informal conversations over coffee and a shared couscous dinner, which allowed discussions on borders, migration, solidarity, and media representation to continue in a more intimate and convivial setting. The event also received media coverage, including an article by Gil24 and a couple of Youtube videos shared online, further extending the conversation beyond the room and bringing wider visibility to the project’s engagement with migration, borders, and storytelling.
