New book chapter in Doing Digital Migration Studies (AUP)

Reel Borders team member Irene Gutiérrez has published a new book chapter in the book Doing Digital Migration Studies: Theories and Practices of the Everyday, edited by Koen Leurs and Sandra Ponzanesi (Amsterdam University Press). The chapter draws on ethnographic research and three archival participatory filmmaking workshops held in Ceuta, Madrid and Vitoria (Basque Country), including 38 participants and three short documentary films. The chapter explores the ethical and methodological challenges when approaching archival research as a participatory filmmaking practice in migration and border studies. The author wants to thank the University Carlos III of Madrid’s research projects Institutional Documentary and Amateur Cinema in the Colonial Era: Analysis and Uses (PID2021-123567NB-I00) and Cartographies of Mobility Cinema in the Hispanic Atlantic (CSO2017-85290-P), which co-funded and co-organised the workshops. The full chapter can be found here.
