Reel Borders studies how borders are imagined through film

9th European Communication Conference “Rethink Impact”




From 19-22 October Kevin and Silvia attended the 9th ECREA European Communication Conference in Aarhus, Denmark. They presented the paper ‘Feminist Approaches to Border Studies: The Cineforum Experience’. The paper focuses on the possibilities of a non-film approach to understanding the meaning of borders from those whose lives are traversed by them. The paper highlights the possibilities of the cineforum as a participatory research method that uses film as a way of evoking emotions, memories and ideas about the border. Through a perspective of co-production of knowledge, the cineforum aims to give value to the experience of women along the three borders of the project. In this case, Kevin and Silvia presented the preliminary data analysis of women's testimonies along the Irish border.  

The paper was presented in the Diaspora, Migration and the Media section of ECREA.
