Reel Borders studies how borders are imagined through film
September  24-27, 2024 


10th European Communication Conference “Communication & Social (dis)order”




From 24-27 September  Silvia attended the 10th ECREA European Communication Conference in Ljubljana, Slovenia. She presented the paper ‘Revealing activist experiences through film-viewing: emotional geographies at the borders of Ceuta and Melilla’. The paper focuses on the experiences of local activists who have resisted migration containment policies and it was based on her recent publication on the journal Social & Cultural Geography. The paper highlights the possibilities of the cineforum as a participatory research method that uses film as a way of evoking emotions, memories and ideas about the border.   

The paper was presented in the Diaspora, Migration and the Media section of ECREA, where Silvia also acts as vice-chair.
