Irene Gutiérrez-Torres presented the paper “Reframing Europe’s Borderscape: Participatory Filmmaking as Placemaking” during the international seminar Methodologies in Visual Narratives, held at the Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER) on 2–3 December 2025.
Organised by LISER’s Department of Urban Development and Mobility with the support of the Centre of Competence for Experimental and Participatory Research, the seminar brought together scholars working with participatory photography, filmmaking, visual documentation, social semiotics, and multimodal analysis. Across the two-day programme, participants explored how visual methods can challenge conventional modes of understanding and representation, and how visual narratives may contribute to more inclusive, collaborative, and reflexive research practices.
