We are delighted to share that Les Voyageurs (The Travelers) by David Bingong received a Special Mention at the Camden International Film Festival, an Academy Award-qualifying festival. The jury wrote: “ The filmmaker's audacious and life-affirming account of his and his fellow travelers experiences along the border between Morocco and Spain left a deep impression with us. Their unrelenting optimism is highlighted by their exuberant songs”.
This recognition offers an important acknowledgement of the film’s ability to convey the complexity, creativity, and resilience of border-crossing experiences in a context where people are systematically turned into “illegal” migrants. David’s film highlights the power of auto-ethnographic filmmaking not only to document this reality from the inside, but also to strengthen bonds among the travelers themselves and empower them as a group.
