Yazan Badran

Postdoctoral researcher

Yazan Badran is a Postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Communication Studies (SCOM) and Echo and imec-SMIT research centers at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium. He was a PhD fellow of the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) and obtained a PhD in Media and Communication Studies (VUB, 2021). He has been a visiting scholar at different institutions including Kadir Has University (Istanbul, Turkey), and Centre d'Etudes Maghrébines à Tunis (CEMAT - Tunis, Tunisia). His research focuses on the nascent media spheres in the Arab World that emerged following the 2011 uprisings. He has a MSc in Communication Studies from the VUB (2015), and holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Science from the Nagoya Institute of Technology in Japan (2013), and a Japanese language certificate from the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (2007). He worked part-time on the Reel Borders project, contributing to data collection and analysis.
