Reel Borders studies how borders are imagined through film

International Creative Research Methods Conference 2023


The Reel Borders team members Silvia Almenara and Irene Gutiérrez presented their last joint research on the ethical and methodological dilemmas of audiovisual methods in borderlands. Drawn on three-month fieldwork in Ceuta with 13 cross-border women, their presentation reflected on combining cineforum and participatory filmmaking to use film as an embodied knowledge tool. The presentation addressed tensions between anonymity, ownership and participation in conditions of forced immobility and long-term precarity and included three short films collected in the ABCeuta webdoc (forthcoming).
