Irish Screen Studies Seminar. Backroads and Buried Pasts: A thematic Analysis of the Irish Border on Screen

On 5-6 May 2022, Lennart Soberon participated in the 17th Irish Screen Studies Seminar, hosted by the Department of Creative Arts, Media & Music and the Creative Arts Research Centre at Dundalk Institute of Technology in Ireland.

His presentation "Backroads and Buried Pasts: A Thematic Analysis of the Irish Border on Film" gave a detailed account of more than 80-years of Irish border representation in narrative film and beyond. Combining textual analysis, archival research, reception studies, and in-depth interviews, Lennart outlines how filmmakers employ the Irish border and characters such as bordercrossers, borderlanders, and bordervisitors for a series of narrative, aesthetic, and political ends.
